Knowledge Representation: Projects

Goal III.a

Students analyze, organize and describe various formats of information objects.

LIS 6711 Collection Project

This collection project organizes Great Depression Era Hollywood Films into a Collection for "The Library of Historical Film".  Within this project, DVD, Blu-ray, film reel, digital file, and videotape formats are classified through format and genre attributes to aid in storage and retrieval.

Goal III.b

Students identify and apply best practices in the use of different technologies for knowledge representation.

LIS 6711 MARC records assignment.

This assignment introduced me to cataloging through MARC records.  By using MARC records to represent knowledge about the cataloged item, the item can be searched through a public catalog system as is standard in most libraries.

Goal III.b

Students identify and apply best practices in the use of different technologies for knowledge representation.

LIS 6673 Preservation Planning Assignment

The digital curation preservation planning assignment asks students to analyze personal digital collections and create a plan their preservation.  For this assignment I managed all of my digital photos by implementing portions of the OAIS model to my artifacts to ensure long-term preservation.  This paper chronicles the process of discovery, tool research, and plan application.
